Lichnos
is a good starting point for many excursions.
It is nice to reach
Lichnos or Parga over the sea. Boat-taxis offer this route daily.
In
the vicinity you should visit the fortress of Parga. From here you have
a fabulous view on Parga and Valtos.
The
castle ruin "Ali Pasha" in Anthousa is for children and adults a great
adventure. You have a magnificent view up to Corfu.
If
you
want to make a day trip on the seaway it is a good idea to go to Paxos
and Antipaxos. The trip starts on the small port of Parga in the
morning. Daily ships go to the islands. The crystal clear water and the
white beaches of Antipaxos ivite you to swim. The main island of Paxos
offers several shops, cafes and tavernas. If you have time please visit
the museum on Paxos and see how people once lived there.
More nautre you can have
at the naure reserve towards Soivota. There you can make walks in the
shade of the trees an relax.
You
should also visit the Acheron River in Glilki and, of course, the mouth
of the river Nekromantio (oracle of the dead) in Messopotamo.
According to Greek mythology, Acheron is the river to Hades.
Today
the river is for young and old a destination for relaxing. Here you
can cross the river to the source and with the warm temperatures in the
summer it is a good cooling. Whitewater rafting and horeseback riding
is offered on the river.
On
Nekromantio you can see ancient ruins. The Nekormantio form the
mythology is very well know and the only dead oracles in Greece.

Nikopolis is another
exurcion in direction Preveza. These are the remnants of an ancient
Roman city with very interesting historical background.
Other
excursions you can make towards Ioannina. For example the stalactite
cave of Perama or the wax figures
Cabinet of Vrelis before Ioannina.
The
city of Ioannina is famous for its silver jewelry and embroidery. Here
in Ioannina, the visitor can lern more aboud the story of Ali Pasha. In
that trip you should also include a visit to the mosuqe, the old
Turkish library, the old synagogue and the island on the lake of Ioannina.
Well worth
seeing are
also the Zagori villages. These are be known for their stone
construction of the houses. The visitors opened here a different image
of Greece. It is reminiscent of the Swiss Alps. Here, the visitor
receives a breathtaking mountain panorama. You should have a break here
and enjoy the traditional cuisine. The Vikos Gorge offers a wonderful
landscape. It is regardet as the world's deepest gorge and it is in the
Guinness Book of Records.
A
full day trip would also be a visit to the Meteora
monasteries.
They are regarded as UNESCO World Heritage Site. The monasteries are
built on a high cliff. The dress code should be respected.
Men should wear long trousers. Women should no wear mini skirts and
tops with soulder free. Dresses and skirts for women are preferred as
trousers but tolerated if a apron is worn. You can borrow a apron at
the entrance.
Over the sea you can reach Corfu from
Igoumenitsa. It is also a full day excursion. Corfu offers many
attractions for example the Achilleion
(the palace of the empress Sisi), the monastery Pontikonissi , the castle
ruins Angelokastro and much more.
If
you want to visit a traditional Greek market you have to go on
saturdays to Parmithia. Here you will find some goodies to buy.
That

of excursions. Epirus is so diverse that you are not able to visit
all in a vecation. Anyone who
